Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening is the safest and most cost effective way of enhancing the appearance of teeth.
Teeth naturally yellow and discolour over time, but the common reasons for discolouration are smoking and drinking tea, coffee and red wine. Calculus or tartar can also affect the colour of teeth.
Before you get your teeth whitened you will need to see one of our Dentist for a full oral check up and dental clean up (scaling & polish) to get any calculus or tartar removed from your teeth. This will ensure that the teeth whitening treatment will work more efficiently.
Braces
If you’re looking to improve your smile and oral health, braces can be a great option for you. Not only do they help you achieve a more attractive smile, but they also improve your oral hygiene and make it easier to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Having a beautiful smile is an important part of life. We offer a wide variety of modern braces options at The Dental Practice, from traditional metal braces to treatment with aligners such as Clearcorrect®. Our practice isn’t just about straightening smiles though, we have multiple options to keep your smile as beautiful and healthy as possible.
Braces are orthodontic appliances that are used to straighten and align teeth, improve bite function, and enhance the appearance of a smile. Orthodontic appliances apply gentle pressure to gradually move the teeth into their correct positions.
Clearcorrect® Aligners
With no metal wires or brackets and with the added benefit of being able to remove your Clearcorrect® aligner, you will be able to eat, drink and clean your teeth with ease during treatment. Clearcorrect® uses a series of clear, removable aligners that are changed every two weeks as your teeth move. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth and gradually repositions your teeth into a smile you will be proud of.
Dentures
We provide premium quality dentures that instill confidence and provide optimum function and comfort whilst eating, speaking or laughing.
Dentures, also known as false teeth, are a type of dental prosthesis for people missing one, some, or all of their teeth. Fitting a denture to replace missing teeth usually helps patients with their eating and speech. It can also protect the remaining teeth, prevent the face from sagging and improve the patient’s self-confidence.
There are many different types of denture, classed according to:
- How many teeth they are replacing (full or partial)
- Whether they are fixed in place or removable
- Whether they are supported by the gum or by implants inserted into the jaw bone
- The material they are made from
Types of dentures
It could be anything from one single replacement tooth hooked around neighbouring teeth, to a full set of teeth on an acrylic base.
Full vs. Partial dentures
If you are missing all your teeth, artificial teeth are fixed to a plate which sits snugly over your gums. This plate is usually made from gum-coloured acrylic material, but the inner part can be made from metal. The ‘gum’ extends far enough away from the teeth that the edge shouldn’t be visible when you smile. When the base fits well, natural suction keeps it in place.
Partial dentures are used when some healthy, natural teeth are still present. They are carefully shaped by a dental technician to fit around and clip onto any remaining teeth. Both the artificial teeth and gum are coloured to be a good match with your natural teeth and gums.
Crown & Bridges
A crown or a cap is actually a cover placed over your damaged or weakened tooth to bring back its natural look and prevent further deterioration. It is used when your tooth is broken, chipped, cracked, discoloured, misshapen, heavily filled or if fillings have been lost. It helps to cover the unprotected area of a tooth with a root canal treatment for replacing old filings or for cosmetic reasons. In simple words, crowns are a restorative and cosmetic method since they replace a tooth without removing the natural one.
Different types of crowns are available depending on the need of the individual that will wear it. Our dentist will suggest the best option based on the location of the crown. They may recommend a resin, ceramic or gold crowns. Our dental surgeon will use his expertise and modern technology to try and match the new crown with the shape of your present teeth and their colour.
A dental bridge is an artificial tooth used to restore the gap created by one or more missing teeth. They are connected by crowning the teeth on either side of the gap and attaching a false tooth in the middle. Bridges help to get back the lost smile with natural-looking restorative teeth on both sides of the gap.
Our dental surgeon will take X-rays and impressions of the affected area that require a bridge. Photographs are taken to plan out bridge restoration for you. Depending on the number of consecutive teeth that you are missing, your bridge may be three or more units, two crowns attached to the teeth on either side of the space known as abutments and one or more artificial teeth called pontics, for filling any empty spaces. The dentist will create a customised bridge for your mouth that will function and look just like your natural teeth.
